This May, New Zealand celebrates Music Month, and for the first time ever, the heart of the Waikato will echo with the sounds of some of the country’s most exciting live acts at Waikato Rocks! — a landmark event set to electrify local audiences and mark Hamilton’s place on the national music map.

Bringing together nine diverse and dynamic music groups from across New Zealand, Waikato Rocks! promises a night of unforgettable performances — from the raw energy of rock to the heartfelt twang of alternative country, and the bold pulse of metal to the sharp edge of indie and hardcore.

The Lineup:

  • Luger Boa: Born from the creative vision of Jimmy Christmas (formerly of The D4), Luger Boa delivers an intoxicating fusion of sci-fi cool and rock ‘n’ roll swagger. Expect nothing short of pure, unfiltered power from one of NZ’s most magnetic frontmen.
  • Danny Rascal: With a career that’s seen him share the stage with both local legends and international icons, Danny Rascal’s knack for catchy, hook-laden rock is poised to light up the night.
  • Tablefox: Hailing from Auckland, this indie-rock powerhouse has taken the NZ rock charts by storm, recently hitting #1 with their single Where Do I Belong? and fresh from supporting acts like Ash, Inspiral Carpets, and Ride.
  • Tony Lee: Hamilton’s own alternative country rock maestro, Tony Lee has racked up accolades on both sides of the Tasman, including international recognition at the Limelight Film Awards in London and chart success in Australia.
  • Medusa Glare: Bringing the golden era of rock into the modern age, this Hamilton-based band blends Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin influences with their own distinctive sound to deliver powerful, groove-driven anthems.
  • Dead Empire: From Mount Maunganui, this progressive rock quartet is known for their technical flair, unique time signatures, and an energetic stage presence that captivates audiences across the genre spectrum.
  • Rise the Wicked: Waikato’s own five-piece metal juggernaut, RTW’s debut album State of Oblivion has built a fierce following thanks to their signature guitar-driven sound and commanding live performances.
  • Intercite: Proof that rock has no age limit, this teenage alternative/grunge/rock outfit from Kapiti Coast delivers energy and charm in equal measure — their single Ode To Beer is already turning heads.
  • Hoon: Straight from the halls of Hillcrest High School, this hardcore collective channels raw youthful intensity into a sound that’s aggressive, direct, and unapologetically powerful.

Waikato Rocks! marks not only a celebration of Music Month but a defining moment for Hamilton’s live music scene, bringing together established names and emerging talent for one night of genre-defying Kiwi pride.
