Wellington’s Debt Club have released their first full-length LP, Foothold, building on the momentum of singles I Do Mine, Brand New Lovers and Marble Hill.

Foothold is a map of the band’s short but restless history, it’s a pull-all-the-stops heart-throbbing record from back to front. In the bigger moments lyrical themes of melancholy, regret and grief are sidelined by a freight train of euphoric guitars and saxophone. While in the more intimate moments the driving rhythms sink back to allow three-part harmonies to breathe a sigh of relief. The six piece have also ventured beyond their traditional lineup to include a posse of additional musicians to fill out the sound. Lap steel drifts through Brand New Lovers and I Do Mine. Banjo and strings surface on How I Can Fix It All and Mandolin, with an additional horn section being added on the later.

Within the release week, Foothold has snuck into the Official Top 20 Aotearoa Albums Chart at #20. Since their 2025 EP, Taste For Stout, Debt Club have already clocked festival stages at Rhythm & Vines, Twisted Frequency, CubaDupa and Newtown Festival, and shared bills with Marlin’s Dreaming, Phoebe Rings and Australia’s Floodlights.

Foothold is out now. The band will take it on the road across Aotearoa in the weeks ahead.
