Jeremy Redmore and Corrella’s Ngawai Campbell Release New Waiata

Jeremy Redmore’s groundbreaking Singalongercise kaupapa is taking Aotearoa by storm.
The New Zealand music legend, who first made his mark as the frontman of Midnight Youth, had kids (and adults!) jumping for joy during the recent school holidays, when he revealed Singalongercise along with the song Just Move.
Now comes the bilingual waiata Tipatapata, featuring the one-and-only Ngawai Campbell (from Corrella fame).

The toe-tappin’, feel-good dance-pop tune is the second song from Jeremy’s upcoming debut album for children, which is built around the exciting new concept, Singalongercise.
The idea behind Singalongercise, which includes the album and a series of tailor-made videos, is to combine singing and exercise to encourage wellness among children in Aotearoa.
“Singing has enriched my life in so many unexpected ways and now science is beginning to explain the reasons why: singing is not only a beautiful act of expression, it’s also a catalyst for well-being,” says Jeremy.
The collection of songs and music videos, which will be revealed in full on October 21, combine group singing and synchronised movement via an easy-to-learn format. All the songs on the record have been written and produced as if for an adult pop, dance and rock audience, but lyrically they relate to children, thus with the potential to appeal to both parents and kids alike.
The newly released Tipatapata is testament to just how captivating Singalongercise is. The waiata is a call to action, inviting children to find joy and connection through singing – in both Māori and English – and stamping their feet together in unison.
Jeremy wrote ‘Tipatapata’ with Ngawai Campbell, who many will know from the beloved NZ reggae band, Corrella, and Christian Tjandrawinata, who also produced the track.
“Ngawai co-wrote and recorded flawless vocals for this song while nursing and caring for her then three-month old son! The movement in the chorus is inspired by both traditional Māori mau rākau and seagulls seen stamping their feet on shorelines,” says Jeremy.
As with Just Move, the Singalongercise stop-motion mascot, Mylo, leads viewers through Tipatapata’s interactive movements. Fans of Jeremy’s catalogue of music for children may also spot some old friends from previous music videos in amongst the beautiful beachy scenery.

With a multitude of critically acclaimed solo releases to his name, as well as a chart-topping, award-winning six-year streak with Midnight Youth, Jeremy became obsessed with singing when he was a teenager as it helped him emotionally navigate the death of his mother. He could not have predicted that he would go on to front one of Aotearoa’s most successful rock bands of the late 2000s, to now live in The Netherlands, where he’s been touring Europe with the global phenomenon that is Synthony.
Now he’s inviting children (and their adults) to join the Singalongercise movement and spread the joy of singing!
