‘Julia Roberts’ – The New Single From Becca Caffyn

Indie-folk singer-songwriter Becca Caffyn returns with theatrical track Julia Roberts.
Doused in glittering violin, dark imagery, and moody instrumentation, Julia Roberts marks the kiwi singer-songwriter’s first release since relocating to the United Kingdom in mid-2026.
Born out of a character writing exercise while on Parachute Music’s Artist Development Program at only eighteen-years-old, the track underscores the stark differences between reality and cinematic fairytale endings. Written from the perspective of a fictional protagonist, Julia Roberts references its namesake’s famed role in Pretty Woman, while lamenting a glamorous deliverance akin to the one awarded to the film’s main character.
Though a rare outlier from Caffyn’s autobiographical discography, Julia Roberts maintains its writer’s vulnerable and relatable lyrical touch, transporting the listener to a world full of microwave dinners, self-loathing, unmet expectations, and the disappointments that accompany growing up.
Initially released as a cassette demo – recorded in one take with one mic and put onto tape – on her 2022 debut EP The Replacement Blonde, the track has accompanied Becca throughout the early years of her career, becoming a permanent fixture and fan favourite in live show setlists. Evocative in both its acoustic and full band forms, the track is a testament to Caffyn’s lyrical prowess and knack for narrative songwriting.
