For fans who remember the legendary, fun-filled nights at Sumner’s Marine Tavern, there’s exciting news: Louie and the Hotsticks are getting back together for two special shows next week, offering audiences one final opportunity to see the much-loved band live.

The band will perform at Lyttelton Arts Factory on Friday, November 6, in a fully seated show, followed by an all-standing performance at The Loons on Saturday, November 7.

For those who remember the Hotsticks in their heyday, the reunion promises a welcome return to the rock ’n’ roll, soul, Latino and reggae sounds that made the band such a favourite with audiences.

While two much-loved members of the original line-up, Wayne Beecroft and Wayne Jamieson, are sadly no longer with us, the band is welcoming two new members: John Weir on drums and John Lanham on bass. As well as Hannah Everingham and Morgan La Fae on backing vocals.

And the rest of the band have lost none of their magic.

Singer Helen Mulholland has spent much of the intervening years living and performing in Sydney, but retains all the enthusiasm, energy and flamboyance that endeared her to audiences.

Al Park continues to bring the style and staying power that come with celebrating 50 years of playing music in Christchurch. Saxophonist Danny Wilson remains active on the Christchurch music scene, delivering his distinctive saxophone sound alongside the softer tones of his flute.

Guitar supremo Jim Walmsley has been entertaining pub audiences in Wellington since leaving the Hotsticks and moving there in the mid-1980s.

Together, the band will revisit a selection of favourites from its much-loved repertoire, including the originals Living on My Heart, Talkin’ About Kid Creole (Si Si), Vauxhalls Song and Down in the Alley.

For a band whose music brought people together, filled dance floors and left audiences wanting more, these two performances promise to be a special celebration of the music and memories that have endured over the years.

For longtime fans, it’s a chance to reconnect with the soundtrack of a memorable era. For newer audiences, it’s an opportunity to discover what made Louie and the Hotsticks so legendary.

These are the final shows. Don’t miss the chance to see Louie and the Hotsticks live one last time.
