Mizzy Releases New Single ‘Fruit Flies’ + Announces EP ‘Organic Matter’
Auckland indie artist Mizzy shares the first taste of her sophomore EP and teases upcoming music video to follow.
Mizzy shares her new single Fruit Flies and announces her forthcoming EP Organic Matter, due for release this October. Following recent performances supporting MACEY at The Tuning Fork and arielwose alongside Emily Bateman at Big Fan, Mizzy has been turning heads for her ethereal, captivating live shows. Fruit Flies continues to develop Mizzy’s blend of atmospheric production and emotionally direct songwriting.
Produced by long-time collaborator Ben Woolford (Double Parked), the single marks the dream-pop artist’s first new music of 2026. The single is to be accompanied by an official music video directed by close friend Neve Hopman, premiering on 6th of August.
Mizzy (otherwise known as Mia Aitchison) says Fruit Flies was written during a period when she felt pressure to exceed her own expectations and idealism while struggling with mental health challenges. “When you’re comparing yourself to a grandiose version of who you could be, everything you’re lacking becomes apparent. During this period of my life, I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t transcend this disappointing real-life version of myself. But ironically, that kind of thinking became this puzzling obstacle that held me back even more.”
Originally from Wellington and later the Wairarapa, Mizzy moved to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland in 2021 to pursue songwriting. She completed a Bachelor of Music in Popular Music at the University of Auckland in 2023 and has since established a reputation for immersive songwriting that explores identity, coming of age, relationships, and mental health.
Fruit Flies is the first single from her upcoming EP Organic Matter, which is set to explore learning to embrace authenticity and understanding oneself more fully. The project is a direct evolution from the delicate imagery of her debut EP Wild Ivy, instead reflecting a more grounded, matured perspective. Two more singles will be released ahead of the full project, which is expected in October.
