New Zealand-based, Franco-American, singer-songwriter, Tess Liautaud has released her first single + video ‘Breezy As’

Breezy As is an ode to feeling lost but hopeful, knowing you need to rely on yourself and finding comfort in odd situations of life that feel clumsy and uncertain…scattered brain.

Times of uncertainty build self-doubt but the song in itself has a taste of joy through it, to carry on. The theme feels like carrying on through uncertainty, carrying yourself and it will be “breezy as”.

Recorded at Studio Sublime in Kurow with Julian Rowe on drums, Sam Taylor on bass, Jacob Smith on guitar,  Ken Bronowski on guitar and Hammond organ (recorded in Illinois), as well as producer Steve Harrop on Fender Rhodes. 

”It has a lot of that imprint of how things felt then, days were only getting shorter, feeling rushed by whatever life is meant to be, especially as we got out of lockdown and feeling like things had to be back to the pace they were at before… it was hard to get my mind readjusted, but also realizing there’s no rush…”

”Sonically it makes me nostalgic of the people and life in this little mountain town, where life can be quite carefree too and where community plays an important aspect.

I wanted to make a song that had that uplifting feeling. A sort of little indie rock/pop anthem for life these days, with a kiwi reference in the title Breezy As”

Accompanying Breezy As is music video filmed by Gina Johns, featuring Tess traveling in her van visiting some of New Zealand’s classic scenery and beautiful sunsets. 

Tess is a Franco-American singer-songwriter, spending her early years between the eastern city of France, Strasbourg, and New York, including a few years covering herself in music in Liverpool in the UK, she then became a regular in the music scene in Paris, where she performed nightly spending a couple of years honing her performing craft, before making the move to New Zealand.

Influenced by songwriter giants like Bruce Springsteen, John Prine, or Joni Mitchell, Tess’ soulful voice sends shivers down your spine, with songs stemming from explorations of the soul on the road in NZ, reflections on change and moving forward, stories connecting cities to mountains, and back to the sea…

Not unfamiliar to the likes of Ray LaMontagne and Glen Hansard in her folk roots output, her sound also spans the indie-rock genre and will get you on your feet with some classic guitar sounds and playful hooks.
