Rising Dunedin pop artist Niamh Crooks returns with Personal, a sharp, sarcastic pop track about watching a once-close friendship unravel beyond repair.
Written by Crooks alongside producer EDYONTHEBEAT at Parachute Studios in Auckland, the track trades heartbreak for frustration, capturing the moment when giving someone another chance is no longer worth the effort.
Built around biting lyricism and an unapologetic sense of humour, Personal follows Crooks as she confronts dishonesty, broken trust and the slow realisation that someone she once knew has become almost unrecognisable. The lyric “different person, same disguise” sits at the heart of the track, while its repeated “it’s nothing personal” becomes increasingly ironic – because, of course, it is entirely personal.
