Dee Blood and Kay Blood are Please Give Blood, two seasoned Aotearoa New Zealand-based musicians who’ve joined forces on an adventure into psychedelic electronic art rock. The duo unleash guitars, drums and keyboards on everything from psychedelic rock’n’roll and blistering electro punk to ambient pop.

Today Please Give Blood release their new single (and video) Next to Corpses.

Kay Blood says of the song, “The machine we are encased in is the lived experience. The shell – through each experience we interpret – is atomised, genetically painted, species-based, culturally and personally filtered, buried within the subconscious.

We can’t operate our sexuality, yet we are defined by it. We socially struggle to grapple with death, personally shameful practices, the entity of time, our growing vulnerability. We are the pieces of transcendence, of insertion and removal, f*****g next to corpses.”

Next to Corpses has been going down a treat at Please Give Blood’s shows, proving to be a stand-out in their live sets. Basically, it’s a banger.

Please Give Blood channel strands of goth, punk and post-punk, with strange overtones of Television, Wire, Magazine and the rockier side of ’80s New Wave.

“We still believe in the power of music, of song-writing, in that sonic hand to hold through those dark nights of the soul”. – Please Give Blood

Dee Blood has been in a number of Australian bands and art collectives, and Kay Blood the former lead singer and lyricist for 90s Christchurch band Mane.

Please Give Blood’s previous single My Art Dorm went to No. 10 on the SRN chart, which tracks airplay across all five Student Radio Network. The duo have also been featured on Radio Control’s Batcave Beats show, and have been picked up internationally by stations such as Eardrum Buzz.

Their debut album, the aptly-titled Songs for the Long Disaster, is due for release later this year.
