The final track on Sid Diamond’s album Everything, Trapdoor brings a deeply personal journey to a close with a karakia, releasing the past and making space for healing, balance and hope for his whānau.

Produced by Rory Noble and Isiah Ngawaka, Trapdoor explores the struggles we carry beneath the surface: unresolved pain, pressure and past experiences that can pull us back into old patterns, even as we work to move forward.

Raw and introspective, the song reflects the fight to stay grounded when life feels uncertain. Its closing karakia carries particular meaning for Sid.

“The karakia is about removing or releasing my past, and restoring balance, especially after all I say in Trapdoor, and throughout the album. It provides some closure to aspects of my life, and hope for the future with my family.” Sid Diamond

Why Everything matters

Released independently, the nine-track Everything is Sid Diamond’s third full-length album. It speaks to identity, fatherhood, culture, survival and legacy, reflecting the lived experiences of communities whose stories are too often unheard.

Building on stories explored in The Truth and What Doesn’t Kill Me, Everything returns to the pressures and experiences that have shaped Sid’s life, while creating space for growth. It is an honest reflection from an artist considering where he has come from, who he is today and what he wants to leave for his whānau.

From the opening conversation of Return to the closing karakia in Trapdoor, the album carries listeners through life’s pressures and challenges towards moments of peace. Every track forms part of that journey.

At its heart is a message of possibility: through hard work, growth and commitment, a better future for ourselves and our whānau is within reach. The past remains part of the story, alongside the choices we make and the people we become.

Grounded in Sid’s Māori and Cook Islands identity and South Auckland roots, Everything makes room for struggle, healing and hope. Trapdoor closes that chapter with the future of his family firmly in view.
