Aotearoa’s award-winning soul and R&B star La Coco has today released a dreamy new single, Rhythms – the second single from her upcoming EP.

Listen to Rhythms HERE

Rhythms is an understated, slow-burning gem of a tune, blending smooth and sultry alt R&B, lo-fi soul and neo soul. Think Sade meets FKA Twigs, with a touch of Jhene Aiko’s calm vocal vibe and the textured production of James Blake or The Internet.

“I knew exactly what I wanted to say, the sound, everything,” says Wellington based LA Coco, who worked with Yogic Beats on production and studio engineer Troy Kelly.

“I sometimes second-guess whether a song should go out, worrying about how the people involved might react. But at the end of the day, this is my story. This is how I process my emotions and express myself through music. I won’t live with regret later because I let someone, or something hold me back.”

Rhythms comes with a video made by Tris Malu, which flows as freely as the track. “I like to show up to shoots and let things unfold organically. No overthinking, just letting go and allowing the music to move me. I prefer things to feel easy, natural, and comfortable. Let me speak through my music, let the moment breathe, and let the energy flow,” says La Coco.

Rhythms and the recently released haunting and sensual single Linger showcase La Coco’s powerful and unmistakable vocals, and soulful signature sound. Both songs give fans a taste of what’s to come on her upcoming EP.

“While Linger shared my perspective on us, Rhythms reflects how I saw myself during that time. The next track will explore how I see him, and the story continues from there. This project takes listeners on a journey, slowly unfolding the emotions and experiences, this is my process of unpacking and understanding a moment in time.”
