The Bemsha Swing release not one, but two albums
Your favourite anti-bop beat combo The Bemsha Swing today release not one but two albums, before songwriter Shane Warbrooke scarpers off to Germany to live on Friday May 9th.
The central offering is their brand new full-length record The Expectation and Experience of Dissonance. Accompanying this is a compilation of previously unreleased and out of print Bemsha material, This is How We Say Everything We Could Never Say.
After an absence of nearly a decade, The Bemsha Swing are making up for lost time.
Currently The Bemsha Swing lineup is Shane Warbrooke, Brian Purington (Swallow The Rat), and the ghosts of drum machines Artie and The Doctor, who have been imprisoned in a digital hell of their own making (Warbrooke sampled them into a modern sampler because they are too beaten up to tour with).
The Expectation and Experience of Dissonance is constructed around a central theme of bringing the experience of traumatic events into one’s overall psyche, and rebuilding the damage with the help of unashamed joy in the minutiae of the personal world.
The first 5 songs have the subheading The Discordance In Me, while the next five come under the subheading Victory In Sleep.

The first single from The Expectation and Experience of Dissonance was Empty Leather, which sat at No. 3 on the 95bFM Top Ten for several weeks. It was followed by Kintsugi Kids, which went straight to No. 1 in the 95bFM Top Ten upon its release in February, reached No. 7 on the SRN Top 10, and No. 13 on the RadioScope Alt Chart. The latest single Destroyed Chords was released on April 7.
The Bemsha Swing celebrate the release of The Expectation and Experience of Dissonance at Tāmaki Makaurau’s Cupid Bar this Friday May 2nd with Wrong Things and Moppy.
