Tiki Taane & Auckland Phil Announce Electrifying New Show

Tiki Taane and Auckland Philharmonia are uniting on 22 October for one unmissable night of dance and symphonic fusion in the Auckland Town Hall. Featuring Tiki and special guests performing live with Auckland Phil’s full-strength orchestra, plus live-looping and dynamic visual projections, Tiki Taane with Auckland Phil will be an epic collaboration of diverse musical genres.

In Tiki Taane with Auckland Phil, Tiki and his special guests- drum and bass artist Tali, rapper Big Sima, as well as Tiki’s son Charlie and daughter Karcia – join the full symphonic force of the Auckland Phil to perform a selection of music from his back catalogue, specially reimagined for live orchestra.

With a setlist that includes Tiki’s tracks Tangaroa, Summertime and a nod to his Salmonella Dub roots in Longtime, this will be the ultimate night out to kick off the summer season. A highlight will be the 2008 hit Always on My Mind, which rose to #1 and broke two all-time NZ music records – it sat in the charts for a record 55 weeks and was also the first-ever NZ digital single to achieve platinum sales.

This is a thrilling and long-overdue reboot of Tiki’s original 2021 sold-out live show with Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (CSO). Recorded as a live album and made into a full-length documentary, Tiki Taane in Session with CSO won an incredible 40 international film awards.

This Auckland concert sees Tiki reuniting with conductor and co-arranger Tom Rainey, a creative partnership that was integral to the original concert concept in 2021.

Tiki is excited to be performing with the Auckland Phil this October and says, ” The original performance of this show was a career highlight for me, and I can’t wait to run it back at the Auckland Town Hall this October. I know this will be another unforgettable night of Aotearoa music collaboration and an epic party!”

Tiki Taane is one of Aotearoa’s most well-known and diverse artists and producers. First hitting the stage in 1991, Tiki went on to become the live sound engineer and eventually frontman of Salmonella Dub in 1996, which catapulted him into a life-changing solo career that saw his music and production skills reach record-breaking, award-winning heights. Throughout his career, Tiki has also produced music for artists including Six60, Kora, Katchafire, Blindspott, and longtime friends Shapeshifter, while continuing to serve as Shapeshifter’s live sound engineer since 1999.

Tiki recently performed with Auckland Phil at Synthony Festival in Auckland’s Domain, and this is a chance to catch his boundless style, talent and energy in an electrifying collaborative experience in the Auckland Town Hall.
