Tom De Plume Release Debut Single ‘Jaywalking’
Tom De Plume – the new musical project from award-winning producer, songwriter, audio engineer and musician Tom Healy – releases his debut single, Jaywalking.
Introducing a distinct new creative identity, Jaywalking offers the first glimpse into the world of Tom De Plume: intimate without being explicitly autobiographical, and with the focus placed firmly on the music.
A meditation on the fragile privilege of existence, Jaywalking considers the eternal quest to make the most of what we have in the short time we have it.
The song’s exuberance reflects its message. A crowd of backing vocals swamp the main refrain – ‘Oh, it’s a beautiful life’ – while driving bass and tambourine, and snares on every downbeat give it this urgency.
“The songs had been piling up, and ‘Jaywalking’ explores something I’ve contemplated as long as I can remember: what do we do with our lives, and why? It was the insistence of that thought that made me want to finish the song and release it. After being fortunate enough to work within the community of so many gifted artists, I liked the idea of building a musical world of my own.”
To celebrate the release, Tom De Plume will perform a special single-release show at Goblin, Auckland, on Thursday 8 October. Tickets are on sale now through Undertheradar.
