Released at the perfect time, Foley’s new album That’s Life, Baby! is the perfect album to sum up the highs and lows, and tumultuous emotions that arrive over summer, but also over life! The entire album is a no-skip, pop masterpiece with its infectious hooks and sparkling production.

Acting as a thesis statement to the album as a whole, the first song on the track list is the title track: That’s Life, Baby! This song crept under my skin both in melody but also with its message. While on the surface it’s a song about being seen as the villain in someone else’s life, there was an overall sentiment that no matter what decisions you make in life, someone will be disappointed. The only thing you can do is live life true to yourself and ensure you’re not the one who ends up disappointed in yourself. We’re all complex in our own ways, and some people will see us as villains in their story no matter what you do.

As I sat on this album for a few weeks, choosing a favourite song on the album became impossible – each day I felt connected to a different song. One of my consistent favourites is Cardio. Late in the first half of the album, the chorus plays on the phrase ‘running your mouth’ accompanied by consistent but light bass, and a funk groove in the rhythm guitar. Funnily enough I managed to test this on a morning cardio session, and the intoxicating melody is in fact quite exhilarating to run to!

Back To Me is a synth-filled, heartbreaking ballad, the Time Of My Life is punchy and exciting, and Unstable is a song that is probably my favourite of the previously released singles in the lead up to this album. Everyone’s been there, being so insecure in yourself that it starts to affect your relationship, doing your best but ultimately being impatient with answers, and screwing everything up. Low and High, another single, is such a danceable song, about the overwhelming excitement that comes with a new relationship.

Take time to listen to this album in the warmth of the last sun of summer and let it soundtrack your ups and downs, mistakes and milestones of your life! Listening in my twenties, I really feel the chaotic, mistake accepting, exciting, fun essence of this album. This album is sonically cohesive, big, and exciting, like what I hope my whole life to be like!
