Album Review: The Hopkinsville Goblins

The Hopkinsville Goblins are Back! The Wellingtonian’s self-titled album is their second intergalactic collaboration of quirky sound effects, samples and lyrical connotations with continued exploration of everything out of the ordinary with that familiar shambolic confusion that is entirely their own.

The sixteen tracks have a similar feel to their debut, Posts from Planet Earth; unique in creativity, and it definitely wins points for its exploratory ambience. The gimmicky nature of this album is less obvious, because there are some actual punk-funky fusion songs to hear, but production wise, it is still a let-down for me. The thread-bare vocal style of Alvis Impulsive is frustrating at times, and a little too sparse. However, I do applaud that these guys continue to create what they want and push the boundaries of musical constraints.
