Single Review: Holy Water 1

Holy Water is the latest release from the Electronic Alt Pop artist Boycrush AKA kiwi producer Alistair Ross Deverick, and the first thing that hits you is the volume. Not the simple loud/quiet that you can change with the click of a button, but the thick meatiness of that deep bassline. It resonates with each strike and starts off what is almost an onomatopoeic form of music, each layer of synths replicating a different form of regular, yet erratic sounds created by water as it falls, drips, and smothers.

Beautifully cyclical and soothing, the melody pairs well with the vocal performance of Chelsea Jade. A fine coarseness to the voice creates a smooth velvety feel, and is delightfully reclusive, ebbing and flowing throughout the song herself, never allowing the vocal element to overshadow the instrumentation.

A clean, well-balanced track that controls the pace well with percussive elements. Slightly melancholic, yet overall hopeful. A modern-day slow dance for the club.

You can check out the music video which involves some synchronised (land) swimming from the New Zealand Dance Company here.

About the author butch181

Hey there! I’m Alex. Long time music lover, long time reviewer, and now I finally get to combine those and be a music reviewer! As a guitarist, pianist, and vocalist, I have a great appreciation for musicianship and the technicalities that go along with a group of people making music together. My genres of preference tend to gravitate towards Punk/Rock/Heavy/Metal, but I also like to dabble in some Classical, Pop, and even some Drum and Bass. Hope you enjoy my contributions!
