Having exorcised a few ghosts, so to speak, on her soul stirring 2018 EP Demons, Eden Iris is finally set to release her debut album next year.
It’s been an age since the now LA-based, singer-songwriter first came to national attention through Mike Chunn’s Play It Strange competition. Iris, though, has never been one to do anything half-heartedly or thoughtlessly and that’s always been the hallmark of the songs she has delivered.
I Just Can’t Turn It Off is another delightful gem. It has a lovely, earthy and crystalline pop sparkle and sweetness about it that’s endearing and charmingly captivating.
And while there’s a definite vein of heartbreak throughout the song, it comes with a degree of self-awareness, lovingly encapsulated in the lines: “And everything you’ve done for me/Was wasted on a feeling/and I gave no meaning/to our love when I could not explain.”
It’s that kind of clarity that only comes with emotional honesty that’s always made a fan of me. I wouldn’t want her to turn it off.
