Single Review: Just For The Night 1

Just For The Night is the first single to be released in the lead up to the release of Kong Fooey’s second album Feel The Love. Well and truly moving away from the soul and hip-hop specific themes of his debut album, Final Destination, producer Jason Peters has maintained a level of funk while exploring a more pop-infused electronic style of music.

After opening with some light electronic tones, deep, seductive male vocals are introduced; and while the vocals initially stand out and feel separated from the music, that deep style transitions into a clean, higher melody that matches the tone of the song better.

A very simple track, with a good repetitive upbeat pace, that is designed to encourage movement on the dance floor. While the hip-hop elements are missing, there are still hints of the soul and funk influence in some of the samples used (particularly around the 2:00-2:30 mark) that floods the mind with images of the New Orleans Jazz bands.

Basic in structure and melody, there is no stand out feature to work as a hook on the track. That being said there is still huge potential as a club track as the beat is very easy to find rhythm with.

Just For The Night is due for release on 19 October, 2018.

About the author butch181

Hey there! I’m Alex. Long time music lover, long time reviewer, and now I finally get to combine those and be a music reviewer! As a guitarist, pianist, and vocalist, I have a great appreciation for musicianship and the technicalities that go along with a group of people making music together. My genres of preference tend to gravitate towards Punk/Rock/Heavy/Metal, but I also like to dabble in some Classical, Pop, and even some Drum and Bass. Hope you enjoy my contributions!
