Single Review: Same Boat 1

Same Boat is the latest single to be released Taranaki 3-piece Mad Cow.

Mad Cow are mainstays of the New Plymouth have been around since the 1990’s in the North Island’s music scene, evolving from school band No Comment.

The song Same Boat shows and tells how connected everyone in the world is, the band’s self-produced video shows large piles of garbage, then pristine oceans, drawing a correlation between the two.

Musically the band members are highly skilled, with guitarist sounding like he’s had lessons from some of the masters, but has the good grace to have learnt the art of melodic restraint, but he knows how to smash out a killer solo when it fits the song.

Mad Cow has been producing original its own brand of indie-rock music since the 1990s, releasing four CDs since 2000, and the Single Alone in 2021.

The band produces its own music and video content from what the members have called, Pigpen Studios, in the heart of ‘the ‘Naki’.

It’s always refreshing to hear music unsullied by the desire to sound like everyone else, or to keep up with current sound trends, these guys are simply doing it ‘cause they love it..
