It wasn’t long ago I had just finished reviewing Midwave Breaks latest EP- Mind Made Up, and now, we’re back again with their new single- Souvenirs.
First off, let me tell you, these guys are already doing awesome things for New Zealand music, and this new single just further cements their superb range as musicians.
Souvenirs has a harder edge, but there is still beautiful melody and consistency we’ve all come to know them for.
A driving guitar riff takes front and centre on this track, followed by some thundering tempo change and a blink and you miss it, two quick micro screams which are just perfection.
It’s a hell of a jam and one destined to be heard live to a hungry crowd. Is there anything Midwave Breaks touches that doesn’t turn to gold?
The only downside to such a tune is length. Coming in at exactly 3 minutes, 13 seconds, I wish it was longer, but it speaks volumes when you click repeat for the millionth time, so it’s not all bad.
The journey continues for the duo, and although 2023 is proving to be another odd year, at least there is consistency with good music.
I look forward to what comes next.
