Who Shot Scott Shares New Single And Video 'kids Wanna Be Famous'

Who Shot Scott is the musical project of Zaidoon Nasir (he/him), a producer and experimental hip hop artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland).

Who Shot Scott’s production packs a punch, with heavy 808s intertwined with bass that make promises to make subs groove. Lyrically he finely balances bravado and braggadocio with vulnerability and introspection, resulting in a brave creative philosophy that is present throughout his entire catalogue.

Today Who Shot Scott share their new single Kids Wanna Be Famous, an exhilarating new track, that serves as the second single from his upcoming third EP Mercy III.

Kids Wanna Be Famous presents Who Shot Scott in one of the most rowdy and distorted artistic expressions of his career to date, all while delivering a vulnerable tale about a journey to sobriety within an industry made famous by sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll.

“This song is about how I found inner peace within being sober,” say Nasir. “The first verse is the story of one of the lowest points of my life, and the last time I ever drank alcohol. In late 2020 I had one of those nights where I took things a little too far and ended up blacked out, sleeping face flat on a carpet. In hindsight, I’m super grateful for the experience being as gnarly as it was because it made me face a lot of my own insecurities and truly acted as the catalyst to my sobriety. The second verse is all about redemption. I’ve been sober now for almost two years and I owe all of the strides I’ve made in terms of self-growth to that decision. I gave myself one more chance to make everything right, and I’ll never take it for granted.”

“For Kids Wanna Be Famous, I wanted to fully embrace the gnarly energy of the song topic by including as many distorted guitars, punchy drums, and saturated effects as I possibly could. I utilised a lot of glitch techniques on my vocals and the overall production in order to fully embody the disjointedness of the whole ordeal.”

Kids Wanna Be Famous is accompanied by a video by Connor Pritchard. “I wanted to match the energy with the visual and create ‘pace,’ says Pritchard. “Straight away I came up with the idea to have Zee running. But to mix it up, we used a treadmill and created the movement with the lighting. Only thing that was tricky was that it was pitch black and Zee couldn’t see anything. But having him stumbling/tripping over actually made this one 10x better. I’m super happy with the style we went down as well as the fast paced lights circling around Zee., it’s one of my favourites we’ve done together.”

Now the track is released Nasir reflects “Kids Wanna Be Famous” is definitely one of my favourite (if not favourite) tracks that I’ve finished from my upcoming EP Mercy III. I believe it accurately depicts my world view over the past few years, and the high levels of self reflection and vulnerability I have put myself through in order to evolve as a person.
