Leroy Clampitt Announces Debut Solo Album + Shares New Single + Video

Aotearoa-born, LA-based singer, songwriter, Grammy-nominated producer and APRA AMCOS Billion Streams honouree Leroy Clampitt (he/him) today announces his debut solo album Get Happy alongside the new single and video Sick Day. Get Happy is out August 14 via Clampitt’s own newly established independent label Sorry Susan Records, pre-save HERE.
Even if you don’t know the name Leroy Clampitt, you’ve almost certainly heard his work. He’s the production and songwriting mastermind and multi-instrumentalist behind some of the biggest pop music of the past decade, having co-written and produced songs for artists including Madison Beer – as her longstanding primary collaborator and creative partner – Sabrina Carpenter, Laufey, Mallrat, Lily Allen and Ashe. Collectively he has amassed billions of streams for his songwriting credits, and now, he’s inviting listeners into his own weird and wonderful world on his debut solo album Get Happy.
With practically all the instruments and vocals across the album written and performed by Clampitt himself, Get Happy traverses themes of love, work, burnout, the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Clampitt shares: “I was always very content – I still am – making music for other people, I don’t think that’ll ever change. But the ideas that you hear on this record were probably a bit too far out for the people I was working with.” Initially, he was putting the songs together without any intention of releasing them, writing scraps of ideas while in the shower, cooking, travelling to and fro. Then a friend offered him a studio space away from Los Angeles for a week, and the album began to take shape. “It was a burst of inspiration, and that’s what I love about music… what I’ve learnt to love the most.”
His new single Sick Day – the third from Get Happy following I’m Going To Die, released alongside its video made by visual collaborator Samuel Kristofski (Tame Impala, The Rare Bird), and the warm, textured Easy Daisy which features tenor saxophone and flute from Grammy Award-winning musician Jacob Scesney – was made while deep in the middle of producing for other artists and feeling totally overwhelmed. He began to think about taking sick days when he was a kid and how restorative that could be and, after watching old skate videos on YouTube, was struck by the sound of a skateboard slapping the concrete when popping up for an ollie. He sampled it, then built the whole song around that sound as the snare, and that idea as the concept.
Speaking on the track, Leroy says, “‘Taking a Sick Day’ is a strange concept when you’re self-employed, especially when you’re not technically sick – but I’m a big fan of it. Eventually I even rerecorded the ollie sound myself while skating and holding a microphone.”
Leroy Clampitt – formerly known as Big Taste – is a three-time Grammy-nominated producer, notably co-writing and co-producing Madison Beer’s Make You Mine, submitted for Best Dance Pop Recording at the 67th Grammys (2025), and her new album locket which became her first Top 10 Billboard album earlier this year. He’s known for his collaborations with artists like Justin Bieber (Purpose), Sabrina Carpenter (emails i can’t send), and Laufey, and most recently produced and co-wrote six tracks on Lily Allen’s critically acclaimed and BRIT-nominated album West End Girl. With his debut album on the horizon, Leroy’s arrival as a solo offering continues to bloom into a wealth of impressive musicianship, and loveable songwriting.
