Long Distance Runner sign to Sunreturn, announce new album and share new track ‘Nothing’

Simon Oswald (he/him), Jono Glenday (he/him), Sam Cussen (he/him), Sam Shepherd (he/him) make up Long Distance Runner, an aggressive rock group based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, and Ōtepoti, Aotearoa.

Their music takes influence from 90’s shoegaze and East Coast screamo, delivering a dissonant fury unrivalled by most.

Today Long Distance Runner have announced their third album Shadow will be released on July 15 via Sunreturn, and share a new single Nothing.

Underpinned by one hell of a bass grove, Nothing see’s Long Distance Runner play with suspense and release, tricking the listener with false starts and walls of feedback.

“Nothing is one of the first songs we wrote with an album in mind” says Glenday. “It’s inspired by classic 90’s noise rock, totally rhythm-driven with dissonant guitars and vocals adding layers of noise. We love it as a turning point in our live sets – a song that is more hypnotic and almost danceable.”

Vocalist Simon Oslwald notes “Nothing is about consumerism and the rental market in particular. It’s about how landlords feed off our basic need for shelter but do nothing to improve the standards of the house unless they are forced to. It’s about how they need us and we need them but how it’s such an uneven transaction.”
