deepState announces new EP ‘MMXXI The Remixes’ and shares new single

deepState is the musical project of Jessica Morgan (she/her), a musician and songwriter based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Her music is a journey of electronic experimentation, through House, Electronica, Downtempo, Trip-Hop and Witch House.
Today she announces a new EP MMXXI The Remixes, out June 17 via Sunreturn. The EP will feature remixes, edits and reworks from Dbldbl, Van Staden & Bohm, Sonya Waters, Trapjaw Kelpie, Baby Zionov, Liam K Swiggs and Grecco Romank.
As a first offering deepState has shared Sunrise (Dbldbl Sunset Refresh), where her Sunreturn label mate Dbldbl flips the uptempo floor filler into a vibey laidback hip hop track:
“I absolutely fell in love with Sunrise from the moment I first heard it” says Liam Dargaville (Te Rarawa, Ngā Puhi, they/them) who makes music as Dbldbl.
“I was quick to bags the track once I was asked to remix a track from the album. However, I’m not a huge fan of the daytime, or bright lights in general, so I had to get pretty indulgent on the rework to bring it all the way down to my level. This was a sunset to sunrise remix. A dusty ode with all the classic stops on your way through a night crawl; Denny’s, Charlie’s, karaoke, the walk home & some tactical leftovers before bed.”
“It was a dream to cut up too, with so many lush ’n wavy synth lines to choose from. Though in a love hate way my fav sound was the bird sample. I think they were the most reflective of that early morning dread, especially when you’ve been making terrible decisions all night. When you hear the birds, go home.”
Asked to reflect on the remix Jess notes “I was so excited to have Dbldbl do a remix. I love their sound and couldn’t wait to hear what they did with Sunrise. They really transformed this track into a total 90’s-esque laid back rap song and made it their own. I’m obsessed!”
