Trent Smith Returns With ‘Dreaming’

New Zealand-born, Singer-songwriter, recording artist Trent Smith has announced today’s release of his eagerly awaited new single. Dreaming, produced by Kanakin, is available now at all major DSPs and streaming services HERE; an official companion video – directed by Joshua Dey  – is streaming now following its premiere via YouTube.

Since the release of his debut single Heartbreaker, available now at all major DSPs and streaming services HERE, Trent Smith has been making big waves in the New Zealand music scene. Within the first month of its release, Heartbreaker was featured on the Mai FM ‘Heat Check’ where his single was played to a nationwide audience in New Zealand.

Trent Smith’s creative spirit and fresh style garnered instant online popularity, gradually increasing his fan base. Although he has just come into the music scene in 2021, the 21-year-old has the vision and passion of a veteran in the industry. Growing up, Trent dipped himself into music many times including playing for various bands both in Middle School and High School. However, after discovering Basketball at an early age, Trent Smith pursued the dream of playing the sport at a University in the United States. The years of hard work in the sport provided him with the opportunity to live out his dream in 2018 when he made the jump to play Basketball at Blackburn College in Illinois, USA. During this period of 2018-2020, Trent lived the life he thought for so long that was meant for him. However, this period would become Trent Smith’s most difficult challenge to face to date. Incidents involving the police, major mental health issues, as well as drug and alcohol abuse spun Trent into a dark downward spiral.

After returning to New Zealand in early 2020, Trent Smith befriended producer Kanakin who Trent Smith says, “Saved my life.” As their friendship grew, so did Trent’s desire to express his thoughts and feelings through music. “It was so hard for me to fully understand the thoughts and feelings in my own head,” states Trent Smith. “Music became therapy for me. What was hard to understand in my head was easy for me to write in a song.”

Trent Smith now follows up his debut single Heartbreaker with his eagerly awaited new single Dreaming. In his own words, “Dreaming is the total opposite of Heartbreaker. Heartbreaker is a collection of the real experiences I’ve had with women in the past whereas Dreaming is about finding the girl of my dreams. I need to have faith that the girl of my dreams is really out there.”
