So Below Returns With Hypnotic New Single ‘I Think I Might’

So Below, the dark electronic pop project of New Zealand-born, Los Angeles-based artist Madeline North, explores the uneasy pull of desire and control on I Think I Might, pairing haunting vocals with atmospheric, cinematic production.
Moving between intimacy and threat, the track’s lyrics capture the tension of a relationship shaped by emotional dependency, with its hypnotic production drawing listeners further into So Below’s shadowy world.
North has built her sound around the meeting point of dark electronic production and emotionally direct songwriting. Brooding basslines, layered synths and reverb-soaked vocals create an atmospheric sound that balances the ethereal with the unsettling, giving her music a distinct cinematic quality.
Since emerging with her self-titled debut EP in 2016, North has continued to develop So Below’s distinctive place in the alternative electronic landscape. Her catalogue includes Left Behind and Afterthought, a concept album exploring death, loss, religion and the afterlife. Across these releases, North has built a world that extends beyond the music itself, with recurring themes reflected in her visual direction, artwork and music videos.
Her approach to the project is grounded in creative independence. Speaking about her work, North has described the freedom of being a solo artist as allowing her to follow her vision without creative boundaries, supported by collaborators who understand and share that vision.
With more than 25 million streams and tours across New Zealand, the US, UK and Europe, So Below has developed an international following, with coverage from publications including Neon Gold, i-D, Refinery29 and The Line of Best Fit.
I Think I Might arrives as North continues to shape the next chapter of So Below, with her third album planned for 2027.
I Think I Might is out on all streaming platforms now.
