Bluey Green releases stunning indie-pop, self-titled debut EP

After releasing an impressive string of positively dreamy singles, Mount Maunganui artist Bluey Green has today released his debut, self-titled EP Bluey Green.

Produced by Merk (Mark Perkins), the Bluey Green EP is a colourful journey of indie-pop sincerity featuring earnest vocals and musicianship from Mitch Horton AKA Bluey Green.

“I have always loved records that keep you guessing, so you never quite know where they are going to go between songs,” says Horton of working with MERK on the record.
“Records that have a mixture of themes, energy levels and emotions are the most captivating to me.”

With Morning Sunshine, Roses, and Colours already released, audiences can today hear the full EP of indie-pop-surf-rock vibes of this exciting new artist.

Morning Sunshine debuted with acclaim and was championed by Radio Hauraki. The Morning Sunshine video features skiing film footage from the NZ Film Archives, originally directed by Kiwi film legend Sam Neill. The track garnered over 100k views on it’s music video, aided by catching the heart of Neill, who shared the video on his social media.

Current single, Colours, was inspired by Horton’s children and the emotions they evoked. “I originally wrote Colours when I saw the open and honest way my kids would interact with the world”, reflects Horton.

The EP is rounded out by the chilled ballad, Roses – a love song to Horton’s now wife that was 15 years in the making. The EP also features two previously unreleased tracks – In A Nutshell and Trouble.

In A Nutshell is a reflective story by Horton about relationships and forgiveness while Trouble reflects on friendships and the ever-changing journey.

After an adventurous life of surf and travel, including a stint in Eastern Europe as part of a rock opera, Mount Maunganui’s Mitch Horton turned the turmoil of 2020 into the catalyst for him to create a musical presence of summery optimism, under the name Bluey Green. His warmth and positive energy that make up the signature indie-pop-surf-rock Bluey Green sound, is a breath of fresh air to a weary world.
