New Teeth release debut single: ‘You Don’t Know Me’
After months of Wellington shows and recording sessions, jazz rock band New Teeth have released their debut single: You Don’t Know Me.
You Don’t Know Me was first performed at solo shows in 2024 by Floyd Marsden to tease New Teeth’s entry into the music scene, and quickly became a fan favourite. Since New Teeth’s live debut in March of 2025, the song has been extremely popular in the band’s live set.
Produced by Jackson Kidd (Voodoo Bloo, Adult Friends, My Cosmic Girl), You Don’t Know Me features a jazz-inspired bassline from bassist Tane Kelly, a powerful drumbeat from Cam Brizzle, and entirely improvised piano from Floyd Marsden. In addition to the main trio, the song also sees local music legend Ben McHardy (Dave and the Dirty Humans, Cherry Punch, Shuriken) on synth and writing production.
You Don’t Know Me marks the first of a series of single releases to come from New Teeth as they introduce Aotearoa to their varied and eclectic sound. Lead vocalist, guitarist, and keys player Floyd says: “This song is probably the most traditional sounding jazz of our forthcoming releases, so we wanted to release it first to show what we can do with that kind of sound. Taking a super jazzy bass riff and piano part and making it rock. Our next releases tend to be jazz-infused rock songs rather than rock-infused jazz songs, so it’s nice to start to show that variety.”
Alongside the single, which is out now on all streaming services, a music video is to be unveiled consisting of live footage filmed by fans and photographer Finn Zemba.
