Ani Saafa Releases New Single ‘Ghillie Suit’
Ghillie Suit is the third single from Dunedin-born indie rockers Ani Saafa since their move to Poneke in early 2025, and the first track written and recorded in their new home. Continuing to refine their sound, Ghillie Suit showcases their love for high-energy funk grooves and distorted riffs. The band’s front man, Stan, described the sound as “something to dance to… indie rock for the club”.
Ghillie Suit solidifies Ani Saafa’s indie/garage rock sound, going back to the music of their youth and paying homage to bands like Bloc Party, and taking unexpected inspiration from elements of modern EDM producers, such as 2hollis.
The track’s lyrics explore feelings of alienation towards their music scene, the insecurities of being in the band, and the morality of “selling out”.
The single is defined by a syncopated guitar hook, which holds its momentum throughout the song. Add a disco-inspired drum beat and some hyperpop vocals, and you’ve got something worth listening to. The track was recorded, produced, and mixed by the band, making the track one hundred percent, unapologetically, them. Take it or leave it.
