Ōtautahi’s T. G. Shand returns with dream-pop single ‘Levitating the Knife’
Ōtautahi-based dream-pop artist T. G. Shand makes a return with her latest single Levitating the Knife. Wrapped in shimmering synths, washed-out guitars and punchy drum textures, Levitating the Knife is both cinematic and intimate – equal parts dream and edge. Sonically, it’s warm and hazy, with an undercurrent of grit – a glowing, golden track with a blade underneath. A glittering ode to reclaiming the gaze of perception.
Involved in the track: Parts of the track were recorded with Tom Bell in Port Chalmers in 2024. Cory Champion (drums) and Bevan Smith (engineering) over-tracked the drums in Pōneke, and Steven Marr on mastering.
T. G. Shand is the solo project of Ōtautahi-based musician and producer Annemarie Duff, known for her beats-driven, shoegaze-meets-dream-pop soundscapes. Her 2023 EP Cinnamon topped the NZ Alternative Charts and won the Student Radio Network’s Best EP Award. The live duo (with Hope Robertson on bass) has opened for Blonde Redhead and played festivals like The Others Way and Nostalgia.
