I Feel Too Much follows on from the tracks Life On The Line Feat. Polaris (released late last year), and her most recent single Young Daylight Feat. Jordyn with a Why – making way for Tali’s highly anticipated new album Empress Era (out March 13).
In true Tali style, I Feel Too Much packs a punch both sonically and lyrically.
On the sonics front, I Feel Too Much rises to a high energy crescendo of drum n bass/jungle intensity and emotion, wrapped in the smooth tones of Nathan Haines’ live saxophone
“I’m a classically trained musician and have a love for orchestration and live instruments over top of electronic beats. This song encapsulates that with a slow string led introduction, followed by a change to a minor key, which builds and drops into a swift jungle break, laced with live saxophone,” says Tali.
Lyrically, the song finds Tali exploring the depths of her emotions.
“I am a very empathetic person, almost to my detriment, as I am often really affected by happenings in the world and directly around me, which at times has created anxiety and bouts of anger or deep sadness. It got me wondering about whether I had always been like this, and talking to my family we reflected on how I’d always been a kid who ‘felt too much’,” says Tali.
“I spent a lot of time alone growing up on the farm, climbing trees and composing poetry in my head, and feeling this deep sense of wonder, but also confusion and sadness. How could a world filled with happiness and joy, also be so full of sadness and despair? I often wished (and still do wish, sometimes) that I could run away from my feelings, block them out – so as to escape the weight of what I feel.”
I Feel Too Much was written by Tali, with Nathan writing his saxophone parts; and produced by Tali with mixing by Tiki Taane.
Catch Tali perform live at Shipwrecked on February 8, Splore on February 21/22 and Synthony in the Auckland Domain on March 21.
