Written and co-produced by Niki, I Don’t Think About You is a powerful song steeped in melancholy and shaped by lap steel, soft piano and Niki’s intimate vocals. Lyrically raw and honest, it explores the messy human parts of healing and learning to love yourself.

“It arises from the quiet aftermath of a toxic relationship. It traces the fear, uncertainty, and fragile hope of finding your way back to yourself. It’s an expression of grief, hurt and healing,” says Niki.

The NZ-born, Canada-based artist adds that when she first recorded the demo, it was more upbeat in its arrangement. But when it came to putting her upcoming album together, Niki decided to lean more into the real heart of the song – capturing the unfiltered emotion we hear on the final track and shining a light on her ability to write songs that cut deep.

“I try not to shy away from talking about the hard stuff, the vulnerable and honest and messy moments of being human. Though this song is packaged up in a singable melody and accessible musical structure, I think it speaks to my desire to create spaces where people feel seen and my hope is that as a result, a little less alone,” she says.

I Don’t Think About You is the third single from Niki’s upcoming album The Space In Between, which is out on Friday October 2. It follows the songs Through The Night and Revolution.

Born and raised in Tāmaki Makaurau, and now based in Toronto, Niki’s sound is grounded in roots and soul. She blends warm grooves and emotional melodies into honest storytelling with heart.

Her forthcoming album The Space In Between explores themes of home, identity, and belonging. It’s a journey of reconnection through culture, nature, and story, integrating Polynesian elements into contemporary roots music.

Through music, she shares openly, hoping listeners feel seen, heard, and held. Each note a quiet invitation to meet ourselves and one another gently, in pursuit of a kinder world for all.
