Emily Bateman Releases Punchy New Single ‘Do You Think It’s Over?’

Auckland-based alternative pop artist Emily Bateman returns with her latest single Do You Think It’s Over?, a raw and emotionally charged track that signals a bold progression in her sound. Self-described as ‘yearning girl pop’, her music details complicated relationship dynamics and self sabotage. With this new release, she sharpens that introspection into something less self-conscious and more assertive.
Do You Think It’s Over? blends gritty, early 2000’s inspired pop rock with modern alternative textures, pairing driving guitars with candid lyricism. The track explores the tension of knowing a relationship has run its course, but avoiding the emotional fallout that comes with accepting the truth. It’s a song about denial, frustration, and the restless space between endings and acceptance. Drawing inspiration from the nostalgic edge of early 2000’s pop rock and the atmospheric intensity of contemporary acts like Wolf Alice and Fazerdaze, the single reveals a compelling new direction for Bateman.
Funded by New Zealand On Air, Do You Think It’s Over? marks the first release from Bateman’s upcoming third EP. The project is set to expand her sonic palette, leaning into pop, alternative rock and flavours of synth pop. With two EPs behind her, Emily Bateman continues to build a vivid musical world, cementing her place as one of Auckland’s most compelling rising artists. Do You Think It’s Over? is not just a new single, it’s the opening statement of a new project defined by sharper edges, bigger hooks, and unflinching honesty.
