Evie Bamford Releases Debut EP ‘Now Rising, Now Falling’
Following a strong run of radio and chart success throughout 2026, Auckland indie-rock artist Evie Bamford releases her six-track debut EP Now Rising, Now Falling today, 1 September, marking the beginning of a new chapter for one of Aotearoa’s emerging alternative artists.
The release follows Bamford’s latest single, Daily Bread, which spent two weeks at #1 on the RadioScope Alternative Airplay Chart, while also reaching #1 on 95bFM’s Top Ten and RDU’s Te Ahi Top Ten. The single went on to reach #13 on the Official Aotearoa Music Charts’ Hot 20 Aotearoa Singles.
Written across three years, Now Rising, Now Falling documents a period of transition as Bamford moved into her mid-20’s, exploring anxiety, self-worth, relationships and resilience through six intricately arranged indie-rock songs. The EP’s title reflects the emotional push and pull of growing up – the experience of moving forward and falling back – while also nodding to breathwork and the practice of returning to the present moment.
The EP’s final track, Your Girl, serves as its focus track. A dreamy, nostalgic love song, it shifts the perspective of the EP’s opening track, Through the Day, transforming its refrain of “I’m just trying to get through the day” into “I’m just trying to get through the day, trying to get through to my baby.”
Evie shares;
“Your Girl’ was the only song I wrote after I had formed the band – all other EP tracks were written before I had people to play them with! I think this track really encapsulates my songwriting and is the perfect end to this EP. It is dramatic and dense, has heaps of modulations, and hopefully makes listeners feel like something beautiful is swelling up inside them.”
To celebrate the release, Evie Bamford will take Now Rising, Now Falling on the road with her live band, featuring Jeremy Richardson, Hugo Butler and Rory Johns.
The Auckland show will be a particularly expansive affair, with special guests joining the band on cello, trombone, flute and saxophone to uplift the EP’s existing rich and layered arrangements. It will be Bamford’s biggest live band yet, making for a one-off night of colourful instrumentation, improvisation and energetic, jazz-infused indie-rock.
