Eigenface Release Third Video Single ‘Twizel’ + Announce NZ Tour
Following the release of House by the Sea and Slow Exposure, NZ/New York trio Eigenface return with Twizel, the third single from their forthcoming self-titled debut album, due 2nd October on Home Alone Records.
Twizel is Eigenface’s postcard from a perfect holiday morning where rabbits are out eating grass, the air is crisp, and under a beautiful peach sky everything feels briefly, ridiculously beautiful. But beneath the sunshine and small-town charm is a song about longing for a person, for a place, and for a version of life that feels just out of reach. There is good food, plastic fish, sleepy mornings, and the promise that everything is alright, while the lyrics keep asking, “Do I feel awake?”
“The song grew from being at the beginning of a new journey with someone you love, while knowing you were about to leave a place that had made that moment feel so beautiful,” says guitarist and singer Logan Valentine. The accompanying video was set in New York, deliberately far from the world described in the song. Instead of trying to recreate Twizel, it plays with the distance between the place you’re longing, and the place you are.
Eigenface are Penelope Esplin (French for Rabbits, Lake South, Grawlixes), Elliot Vaughan (CNZ/NZSM Composer in Residence 2024, Moth Quartet) and Logan Valentine (Moon Lander, The Tweeks).
Twizel appears on the band’s self-titled debut album, due October 2nd on Home Alone Records. Born from an impromptu challenge to write and perform on each other’s work, the result became a cohesive set of songs and a debut album. Across its songs, the band explores memory, place, relationships and the tension between beauty and discomfort through expansive arrangements, electronic textures and intimate storytelling. Recorded and mixed by Vaughan, mastered by Harris Newman (Wolf Parade, Buck Meek, Godspeed You! Black Emperor), and featuring Vaughan’s lush string arrangements throughout, the album delivers post-pop, paired with bright melodies and subtle dissonance, layered harmonies and richly textured arrangements.
Eigenface’s debut single, House by the Sea, reached #1 on RDU, #4 on Radio1 and #2 on the SRN Charts. Eigenface have appeared at Newtown Festival, The Performance Arcade and Day in the Bay, and shared the stage with Lake South, Julian Temple and The Broken Heartbreakers.
The band will celebrate the release of their debut album with a New Zealand tour.
