Phoebe Vic’s Mood Swinger is exactly what it tells you it will be; a mood swing of songs that are fun, crazy, emotional, and a bit angry.
Mood Swinger opens with the track Big Opener, which lives up to its name with dramatic instruments and operatic notes.
If you have ever had feelings for another person and got in deep and they haven’t returned them, then this song is for you. Wasn’t That Deep takes you on a trip trying to convince yourself exactly that, that it wasn’t that deep and to get over it.
Pusher! is so damn catchy I’ve been dancing round the house singing it randomly for days. Pusher! is probably relatable to most women who don’t have babies and feel pressured to do so. ‘My biology, hand to hand combat with my IUD, this second nature nurture I’m supposed to be, giving me a crisis of identity’ is a powerful line in this song that I’m sure will resonate with many.
Make sure you check out the music video for this one coz it gets wild haha. Seriously though, try getting Pusher! out of your head, because that chorus won’t leave!
Ahh, the classic late night messages from that guy shooting his shot is another thing we’ve probably all had in common as women. Slipped Your Mind is about how he appears to have forgotten about his girlfriend and I love how Phoebe’s voice sounds in this song, very soulful.
My favourite track on Mood Swinger is Soft Spot. It’s so funky and has some wonderful lyrics such as ‘Why am I angry all the time, I’m probably just sad’. There’s some great layering and different styles of vocals throughout the song and it makes for great listening.
The final song is Mad Woman and it is a great way to finish Mood Swinger. Phoebe nails this song and how a man is the good guy and she’s just the insane woman. Bringing back the operatic tones from Big Opener to finish it out is the icing on the cake.
This album honestly feels so real and raw and it is so refreshing to hear such powerful and relatable lyrics instead of just pop love songs and ones doting on men. Every song is so good and Phoebe’s voice is unique and beautiful in every way.
Mood Swinger is a must listen for every woman and I think will make so many women feel seen, but then ‘What do I know, I’m insane?’
