January Blue Releases New Single ‘Sha La La’

January Blue’s latest single turns post-breakup regret into a retro pop banger on Sha La La, a sun-soaked feel good summer song about moving on, glowing up and discovering that your ex wants you back a little too late.
Wellington-based singer-songwriter January Blue emerged in late 2025 with a unique genre bending sound rooted in emotionally candid lyrics, nostalgic influences and a love for storytelling through melody and a rich sonic backdrop.
Sha La La finds January Blue at her most playful, pairing contemporary pop songwriting with the warmth of a bygone era. Breezy guitar, bright horns (from Wellingtons go-to brass section Ben Hunt and Christopher Buckland) and a recurring doo-wop-inspired refrain give the track its beachy, retro-pop sound.
Produced by Toby Lloyd of Tiny Triumph Recordings and mastered by Benny Tones, the track’s joyful production deliberately contrasts the story beneath it. Sha La La continues the world introduced in her previous single Boys Club, inspired by a friend whose relationship ended when the person she imagined spending her life with chose the freedom of being young and unattached.
Where Boys Club captures the heartbreak, Sha La La is what happens when the balance shifts: he wants her back, but she’s already happier without him. “Boys Club and Sha La La were written within a week of each other. Boys Club was an acknowledgement of the hurt, while Sha La La became a manifestation of what I wished would happen next for her: the victory of knowing she’s better off.”
Sha La La will become the final chapter in a planned four-track EP following the same protagonist through heartbreak and beyond, with each song revealing another part of her story.
