With an intimate gig at Newtown’s Moon Bar, Louis TM and his trio (drummer Jacob Randall, guitarist Chris Armour, bassist Steve Moodie) played a mix 60’s soul classics and originals.

In the mix was the bluesy classic Sweet Adeline, a rendition of Ray Charles’ Georgia On My Mind and a very funky take on Lennon’s Jealous Guy. Alongside are a couple of cuts from Louis’ fav Donny Hathaway (including his arrangement of Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On).

Originals included This Flame Ain’t The Same, Never Give Up On Your Love and See Me Flying, which he made with Fly My Pretties. Appropriately, the night finished with his one. It was a charming slice of soul for a bit of a dull Wednesday night. Nothing too exciting of late, or nothing like that. Louis had to get up early to fly down South for a Pretties gig the next day, anyway.

This gig was part of the The 2026 Wellington Jazz Festival, which runs from Wednesday 14 October to Sunday 18 October 2026.
