Zentarge Unveils ‘Okea Ururoatia’ Feat. Troy Kingi
Zentarge bring a fresh perspective on their new track Okea Ururoatia. This contemporary te reo waiata tells the story of a young person’s journey as they chart the course through the ups and downs of life. Sonically, Okea Ururoatia draws on R&B, soul and funk influences while being grounded in kaupapa Māori.
It’s inspired by the lived reality of putting years of effort into something, giving everything towards a particular goal, only to eventually realise that the dream may not come to fruition. With a heart that embraces change rather than resignation, the threads of Okea Ururoatia run parallel to the whakataukī, “Ka mate kāinga tahi, ka ora kāinga rua” – the idea of finding another way forward when one path does not work out.
This harmonic taonga was created alongside renowned Māori artist Troy Kingi, reo Māori expert Paiheretia Aperahama and was backed by Waiata Anthems.
