Jordyn with a Why Releases ‘Where You Water’ EP

Where You Water is the latest EP from Jordyn with a Why. A collection of waiata reo rua that sees her return to her roots – stripping back her production process and recording real instruments live, with the people she trusts most.
Dropping today, October 30, the EP follows the release of Jordyn’s two singles: Where You Water and Pop Champagne; both now available on streaming platforms.
“Seeing the rise of AI and the over-saturation of trends, I want this project to be the complete opposite – live recorded, indulgent, with my real team, playing real instruments, people that know me and have walked alongside me.”
This five-track EP was recorded live at Parachute’s Studio A alongside the musicians who have walked beside her throughout her journey. The project is an intimate, deeply personal response to an increasingly AI and trend-driven music landscape, bringing Jordyn back to the heart of why she began making music in the first place.
“I think we need pockets to actually indulge in reality – sonic ways to anchor us. I want this project to find people in their realities, rather than their escapism. I want the audience to feel like real life truly is the most worthwhile place to be, that it’s worth fighting for, worth the investment of time and attention. To truly be in the plot of your reality; that is what this project is.”
Jordyn has had a huge year! Her reo Māori cover of Olivia Dean’s Man I Need went viral, and she performed it live directly to Dean before her Auckland show.
She also co-launched 4 The Masses – a collective made up of Jordyn, Mohi and Hope, intent on taking reo Māori music global. In September, she travelled to the UK with the team to perform in London and record at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. They even got direct permission from UK’s Sam Fender to record a reo Māori version of his global hit, Rein Me In.
