Single Review: Lonely, Only

George Manning AKA Montgomery releases Lonely, Only today, and, oh my gosh, it’s a hauntingly beautiful song. In a world where for many artists their next single release has to be even more of a banger than their last, Montgomery’s Lonely, Only is packed full of heart and gentle charm.

The song begins gradually and builds, from a plucked guitar with enough chorus on it to make an 80’s goth band guitarist blush behind their foundation. Instruments are added into the song’s rich texture introducing drums and bass about a third of the way in.

There’s nothing heavy handed about this song, it’s part pop song, part modern symphony and it’s all beautifully composed and arranged.

Lonely, Only is also recorded wonderfully, with space and depth amidst an amalgam of instruments.

This is the second single from Montgomery, following October 2020’s Wasteland, and begs the question; how’s the album coming along?

Montgomery started his musical journey in the UK, and is set to charm New Zealand audiences when he plays live, if he can pull off this wondrous sound in a live setting.
