EP Review: Tape 3

Auckland based singer, song writer and producer Wells* (Josh Naley) has just released the latest and final instalment in a three part series of mini EPs. Tape 3 concludes his unique personal project.

Performing and song writing since the age of ten in addition to studying music at University of Auckland, has given Josh a wealth of experience and knowledge to not only produce for a number of other New Zealand acts, but also a solid background for his own creative ventures.

Tape 3 follows on from the release of his previous EPs; Tape 1 and Tape 2, each one a short but sweet three tracks.

Previously writing and releasing predominately love songs, Wells* took a different direction on this EP tackling the issues of mental health. More specifically his depression. The catchy and upbeat nature in which This EP is delivered may contrast with the lyrics, yet that is what makes this EP memorable.

Wells* vocals are strong and melodic delivering a distinctive sound. Tape 3 is a contrast of upbeat catchy instrumentals complimenting the backdrop of impassioned lyrics. Through his experimental approach to alt-pop production, he has created a standout three part musical project.
