Anna Laurence is an 18-year-old singer, songwriter, and producer based in Ōtepoti, crafting poetic and emotionally honest indie/pop/folk songs rooted in nostalgia and storytelling. Her delicate and open vocals blend with warm guitars, layered harmonies, and 2000’s-inspired textures, exploring themes like girlhood, self-acceptance, vulnerability, and the beauty of everyday moments. Her sound draws from artists like Norah Jones, Lizzy McAlpine, and Fiona Apple – weaving together folk, pop, and alternative influences with her own unique perspective.
She began writing songs at age 13, where she won two national New Zealand songwriting competitions – ‘Hook, Line, and Sing-A-Long’ and ‘Uke Can Do It’. Since then, she has developed her songwriting and music production skills independently. Since her first release in 2024, Anna has written, produced, and mixed her music herself. She shares her work through social platforms like TikTok and Instagram, using visuals, lyrics, and short-form content to connect with listeners.
In 2023, Anna was the support act for Sonia Wilson and Nigel Gavin’s South Island tour. Now in 2025, she is set to release her debut EP, When Tides Turn, in July – a collection of introspective, nostalgic, and vulnerable songs shaped by her love of storytelling and poetry.
Fluent in both French and English, Anna draws on her bilingual upbringing to bring a unique voice to her music, connecting with diverse audiences through her songs. She hopes that her music inspires people and makes them feel seen, heard, and less alone.
