Originally from Middlesbrough, UK, now living in Wellington, NZ. David Kirby is a singer/songwriter focusing on folk/folk-punk acoustic songs.
In 2020, David recorded his debut EP Can’t Move For Doom with NZ producer Jake Stokes. 2022 saw the release of David’s second EP, Songs to Depress Your Dog, featuring the lead single The Shipping Forecast. Which featured on Frank Turner’s Pass It Along Vol:1 Spotify Playlist.
In 2024 he released the barnstorming Of Pirates & Supermen, described by one-reviewer as ” “what it would sound like (if) Green Day and The Avett Brothers got in a bar fight.”
His latest effort Dive Bar, mixed by Wellington producer Jonny Avery, is a raw and honest powerhouse of mid-life existentialism.
As he never really got the hang of the jingly-jangly style of guitar, his style is mainly a lot of cowboy chords and lyrics about getting old and being sad, but in person he’s actually quite jolly. If you’re ever in Wellington hit him up for a pint.
He spends most of his time drinking tea and writing bios in the 3rd person.
