This Place Here is a Tāmaki Makaurau-based music project led by acclaimed multi-disciplinary artist Swap Gomez, bringing together musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds to explore ancestral instruments, local stories, and contemporary collaboration.

Originally developed through an Auckland Council Arts and Culture initiative, the project has grown into a platform for cultural exchange, creative exploration, and community storytelling. Now in its third iteration, This Place Here continues to amplify the voices, traditions, and lived experiences of migrant and Indigenous communities through music.

The 2026 programme culminates in an immersive live performance experience at Kōmanawa Theatre, Te Puna Creative Hub, with two free public shows. Combining live performance from immersive visuals and documentary storytelling, this latest iteration creates a multi-sensory
performance that brings together global instrumentation, image and stories rooted in Tāmaki Makaurau.

This Place Here celebrates underrepresented sound worlds while creating space for meaningful artistic connection and a bold expression of Auckland’s multicultural identity.
