batbatGoose Set to Release Debut Single ‘No Apology’

batbatGoose (bbG) is a dance/electronic project from Wellington, New Zealand, by James Battersby. The project is shaped by a deep-rooted love of indie rock and a growing obsession with the energy and groove of dance music.
While attending the University of Otago, James began producing music for his band, developing a strong foundation in songwriting, texture, and emotional weight.
Over time, that background evolved as James’ next inspiration emerged through the lo-fi house movement, sparked by artists like Ross From Friends, and later expanded through the colourful, genre-blurring worlds of Barry Can’t Swim and Joy Anonymous. Rather than leaving his indie roots behind, bbG reimagines them in a new context.
The result is a sound that collides shimmering indie pop soundscapes with pumping club grooves – dance music that balances melody, feeling, and movement. bbG’s tracks are built for the floor, but grounded in the sensibilities of someone who came up writing songs first.
James has already taken the project worldwide, including a live show in London in June 2025. Now, bbG is gearing up for the release of his debut single, No Apology, out today, January 28 via London-based label goodtwin.
To support this release, batbatGoose will be hosting an intimate live show in Wellington this weekend.
