Bexy Releases ‘Seventeen’ – The First Single from Forthcoming EP

New Zealand-born, London-based alt-pop artist Bexy is set to release her debut UK EP and the credentials are hard to ignore.
In April this year, Kid Harpoon – the Grammy and BRIT Award-winning producer behind global hits for Harry Styles (Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally & Harry’s House) Miley Cyrus (Flowers) Kings Of Leon & Florence & The Machine – opened his inaugural Abbey Road producer-in-residence writing sessions to elevate the next generation of British based music talent. More than 500 applied. Bexy was among the select few chosen. When a studio & producer at that level picks you out, it says everything about where an artist is headed.
Bexy’s new EP, You’ll Figure It Out Kid, says something about where she already is. The five-track debut is deeply personal yet universal with a raw cutting edge. Co-produced with Manchester-based Jack Shuter (Henry Green, Chloe Slater) the EP was birthed as voice notes & self produced demos recorded on her canal boat.
Bexy had this to say about her newest single, Seventeen, out today: “I’ve never been one to follow convention, and somehow I’m now living on a canal boat, cruising the heart of London. Seventeen was written somewhere between Kings Cross & Camden.”
Built from a back catalogue of raw & emotionally resonant tracks with 16 million streams, You’ll Figure It Out Kid is the work of a fiercely independent female artist who did it without a label, without management, and without waiting for permission. No industry machine behind her yet – just the songs, the instincts, and the drive to keep moving forward.
“Since moving to London I’ve had to start from scratch. It took me back to starting my first all-girl surf rock band at uni In Dunedin. Our first gigs were dirty flat parties with sweat, spit and crap all over our gear but we played night after night until flat parties turned into mainstages at NZ festivals. And it’s that energy, conviction & nostalgia that weaves its way through the tracks in this EP.”
The result is a sound that pushes harder than anything BEXY has released before. Louder, sharper, and edgier.
Her live credits include support for US artist Fletcher, UK folk-indie artist Blanco White and mainstage at Rhythm and Vines.
