New Zealand hard‑hitting heavy rock outfit CRY WOLF today unleash their debut EP ALPHA, marking a major milestone for the cinematic four‑piece. Since emerging in 2025 with precision and purpose, CRY WOLF has quickly become one of the most compelling new names in Aotearoa’s Hard Rock and Metalcore scenes.

ALPHA offers listeners a powerful look into CRY WOLF’s identity, showcasing a sound built on heavy riffs, emotional depth, and melodic hooks. Influences from Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, and Three Days Grace are present, but the band’s voice is uniquely their own – heavy, heartfelt, and built on genuine feeling.

CRY WOLF is made up of Kevin Ashby (lead vocals, guitar), Josh Dillner (lead guitar, backing vocals), Nick Raven (bass), and James Porteous (drums). Together, they’ve crafted an EP that reflects both their musical chemistry, and their commitment to creating meaningful art. The band says ALPHA represents the beginning of their journey – a space where ideas evolve, emotions are channelled, and creativity thrives away from the demands of everyday life.

Recording began at The Lab Recording Studio with drum tracking by Olly Harmer, before the band shifted homeward for production and programming led by Kevin. Mixing and mastering were handled by Nate Sowter and Zorran Mendonsa, two highly respected figures in New Zealand’s heavy rock community. The EP’s artwork was also created by Kevin.

Several tracks from ALPHA have already made an impact. Rainfall has surpassed 10,000 streams on Spotify, while Oceans has earned more than 80,000 views on YouTube. Burn and Player One have further helped establish CRY WOLF’s growing fanbase and presence in the local scene. The EP also introduces Shadows, a previously unreleased track written specifically to ignite live audiences, and Waves.

CRY WOLF is working toward a full‑length album and plans to keep performing across the country, collaborating with friends while building up the rock and metal scenes in their local areas.

To celebrate ALPHA’s release, CRY WOLF will perform two shows this July at Auckland’s Dead Witch on 24 July with A Life Underground and Late To Chelsea, and at Rotorua’s Level 13 on 25 July with Leon Rouge and Cost of Living. Tickets are available now via Under The Radar and Humanitix.

CRY WOLF are entering this new chapter with momentum, purpose, and a sound that sets them apart from the rest – bold, calculated and unapologetically heavy. ALPHA is more than a statement – it’s a declaration of intent.
