Dillon Jo on ‘First Queer Love’ with New Single ‘Jo’

Dillon Jo is a queer, female-fronted four-piece band formed at Massey University in Wellington. Describing their sound as “Dreamy Droppy Rock Pop,” the band blends mainstream alternative pop with heavy elements.
Their new single Jo is a joyful, playful WLW love song inspired by first love. Written by the band’s two lead singers when they were just 19 and living by the beach in Pōhara, New Zealand, the track captures the rush and tenderness of young romance. With a 2000s-inspired rock drum beat and catchy melodies, Jo will be released on February 13, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
“Jo feels yellow – it’s about wanting to be wrapped up in someone and do life beside them.” – Georgie Levien
Originally written as an acoustic ballad, Jo has since evolved into an upbeat, high-energy love song and has become a standout moment in Dillon Jo’s live set, consistently bringing the biggest energy and best vibes. Inspired by artists such as Slow Pulp, The Beths, and Alvvays, the track highlights the band’s dynamic songwriting and growing potential for international reach.
Jo is Dillon Jo’s third single and will be released the day after their headline show at San Fran, Wellington on February 12.
